About Group Hoot!
Group Hoot! is a way for our community to share links to other websites. Every story, video, and picture on this site is submitted by another user and automatically added to the "Upcoming" page. If you like the article, give it a Hoot (click on the Hoot link). The more Hoots the quicker it gets to the home page ("Popular").
Hoot!
Like a story? Hoot (or vote) for the story and give it more popularity. Also everything you Hoot (you must be logged in) is stored for you in your profile, making it easy to go back and see all the links you've liked. Your profile page has a few other cool things you can do, like see a pie chart of your interests based on what you've hooted for. We'll be rolling out new features based on the kinds of stories you're interested in as well, so for more enjoyment sign up for an account and make sure you're logged in when you hoot.
Submitting a link
Videos: if the URL of various video websites is detected (at this point only YouTube is supported), a thumbnail of the video will appear in the summary of the article and the full embeded video will display on its story page.
Tags
These are keywords for your story. They'll be used in the "Tag Cloud" which is a visual representation of all the keywords in all the articles that have been submitted. Usually the band name or any other unique keywords for the article, like a city, festival name, or anything else that distinguishes the content.
For the most part you can just click Submit and preview your submission. But the motivated submitter might be interested in the following fields:
Categories: help the site to categorize the story into one of the few categories I've created; but time will tell if we even need categories since so many stories cross categories and could be replaced by tags alone.
Images: upload an image from your computer.
Add Friends
By adding another user as a 'friend' you've made it possible to easily check for new activity, such as submissions or hoots.
