EARTH DAY NETWORK & GREEN APPLE FESTIVAL ANNOUNCE
MUSIC LINEUP FOR "AMERICA'S LARGEST EARTH DAY CELEBRATION"
Eight Free Simultaneous Festivals in Landmark Parks Across the U.S. on April 20, 2008

Earth Day 2007:: SF by Vann
The initial musical lineup has been announced for eight major Earth Day events by Earth Day Network and Green Apple Festival presented by Chase. Across the country on Sunday April 20, an eclectic lineup of artists will perform in landmark parks in eight cities. The events will combine environmental addresses by prominent speakers, the presence of a wide variety of environmental organizations and educational displays on the theme of environmental awareness. The lineup ranges from blues legends to Latin powerhouse pop stars, reggae greats, jam band favorites, conscientious hip-hop artists, R&B icons, rock bands and singer-songwriters during "America's largest Earth Day celebration." A forthcoming announcement will reveal the "Green Apple Venues" – a list of participating venues and performers in each city who will employ environmentally-friendly practices throughout Earth Day Weekend.

The all-inclusive, interactive and free public events will occur in New York City (Central Park), Chicago IL (Lincoln Park Zoo), Miami FL (Bicentennial Park), Denver CO (City Park), Dallas TX (Fair Park), San Francisco CA (Golden Gate Park) and Los Angeles CA (Santa Monica Pier). The flagship event will be Earth Day 2008 on the National Mall in Washington, DC.

"We're combining music with compelling speech to raise awareness of the problem of global warming and inspire people to action," said Kathleen Rogers, President of Earth Day Network. "Earth Day 2008 will bring major talent and leaders together to empower people to become environmentally active."

"We're thrilled to announce this lineup and expect to reveal more names in the days to come," says GreenApple Festival founder and Executive Producer, Peter Shapiro. "Artists from every genre have raised their hands to participate in America's largest Earth Day celebration, spread out across the country in public parks for everyone to attend. We owe endless thanks to the artists and their teams who care enough to underscore the urgency and message of this mission."

Why oh why isn't Umphrey's playing in Chitown? DC anyone? The best lineup is playing at a mall...

too bad i cant make the trip down to DC...it would be worth it for haynes and umph for free and to moon the white house. that would be fun.

Cool, free shows again. I just hope they don't trash the Chicago Zoo like they did last year, pretty sad that everyone got together on Earth Day and just made a mockery of it. On the other hand, the shows were decent.

Anyone know where to find the schedules? I think I'm gonna leave a festival early sunday to make it to DC and I don't want to miss anything good.

Well, i thought Chicago got screwed as far as the free show at the ZOO, but then i saw everyone else's (but DC) lineup. Did Washington DC win a contest or something? I mean, most of thier lineup could be headliners in just about all of the other cities. I love the free concert, but the chicago one is a TOTAL step down from last year. Maybe the promoters don't want 25000 people showing up like last year at the ZOO (those who were there know what I'm talking about). I think the DC free show may draw over 50000 people. On a side note, I don't know who this band "TOKIO HOTEL" is, but my 14 year old niece is making me take her to the show, and she listens to "boy-band" type stuff, so, anyone know what I should expect? please let me know, thanks.

j-bizzle: those other musicians are playing at other venues in chicago that weekend. bassnectar and eliot lipp are playing the park west, but i think i'm gonna go see meat beat manifesto at the abbey. BUT i think the real heat is gonna be all the raves/dance parties going in chicago that weekend, eliot lipp is doing one of them! anyways i'm a bit disappointed in the chicago's lineup, especially with umph deciding to play elsewhere (i coulda swore they said they wanted to make it back this year...) but it's the zoo and free, hopefully we'll have good weather like last year, and i'll be able to check out derek trucks for myself... now i'm looking for some confirmation for these events. where'd this info come from?

gmoo, its the large strip of land in the middle of all the museums and monuments. They have the great american smoke out there and you can find many bums asking for change and playing a flute or something.

gmoo: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/National_Mall ....The National Mall (officially the National Mall & Memorial Parks) is an open-area national park in downtown Washington, D.C., the capital of the United States.

right brian - they just posted the free lineup, which is good for being free. the "around town" peformers, however, are where its at. Wish Kraftwerk was in milwookie a different weekend.

i would recommend checking the website (http://www.greenapplemusicfestival.com) if one of these shows is happening near you.. like j-bizzle said there lots of other events happening throughout the cities during those weekends as well..

and gmoo - the nat'l mall is that long strip of monuments and uber-important gov't buildings in DC.. it includes the wash. monument, capitol building, etc.

all but dc did get boned on this one... but the capital should get a minifest occasionally. think of all the major 3 dayers all around the country this spring/summer and then figure, which ones are really in the midatlantic. no matter what city you're in, free is for me, so i agree w/ crazynate, jbizzle, and the muffinman. adubvu, see you in bmore then dc. yall have fun and recycle a magic hat for earth day!

hmmmha-I think we're going to treehugger ball at SSDD instead. I'd rather do 420jamfest or UM in PA then B-more then this, but my girlfriend had other ideas. I'm gonna get out of my tent Sun. morning and head straight for DC. Do we know each other?

At Least We got Kyle Orton, who loves to party. You can find pics of Kyle enjoying the chicago nightlife all over the place on the internet. I bet he'll fall off the stage while dancing to Dirty Dozen in a drunken rage. this could be the best fest all year. I hope he appears on the event poster at the top like he's a headliner or something. also, 25000 was just a big number I picked, but according to wikipedia, 40000 attended last year.

hmmmha-I would really rather go to jamfest cuz my friend's band is playing it and I haven't gotten a chance to see them yet but my girl and all her friends want to see Bill Nershi's dumb ass (sorry, no disrespect if you're a cheese fan, but I don't really like him) at treehugger's and she's gonna be upset if I don't go. If you want I'll PM you my number and we could meet in DC.
